My why for this business
Updated: Jun 29, 2020
“1. If you see your neighbors donkey or sheep or goat wandering away, don’t ignore your responsibility. Take it back to its owner. 2. If it’s owner does not live nearby or you don’t know who the owner is, take it to your place and keep it until the owner comes looking for it. Then you must return it. 3. Do the same if you find your neighbor’s donkey, clothing, or anything else your neighbor loses. Don’t ignore your responsibility. 4. If you see that your neighbor’s donkey or ox has collapsed on the road, do not look the other way. Go and help your neighbor get it back on it’s feet!”
So I know this is Old Testament law. I know we do not live by this, but I do know we can learn by this!
This is my why for running this business. You are my neighbor and I have found your donkey....
Just kidding! But you are my neighbor and I have found a healthier version of you, stripped of extra body fat, aching joint, low energy, low self-esteem, and food addictions. That is what I want to return to you! That is my responsibility!
Let’s look at the rest of the details here of how a person is told to carry out their responsibility.
1. The owner has to want the item it lost. Let’s look at verse 2.
“If it’s owner does not live nearby or you don’t know who the owner is, take it to your place and keep it until the owner comes looking for it. Then you must return it.”
So even if I have found these things you have lost...you have to be willing to come look for it! How foolish of me to return your donkey...and you have your back turned and eyes closed and I just drop his lead rope behind you. He would just run away again!! No, I need you to be in the moment with me. Ready to take charge of your own donkey. (Yes this metaphor does crack me up to!)
2. Verse 3 states at the end “Don't ignore your responsibility.” In Hebrew that word for responsibility is לְהִתְעַלֵּֽם׃ (lə·hiṯ·‘al·lêm) which means: blind, dissembler, hide self, secret thing
So this is me stating I will never purposefully hide or keep secret information that you could implement on your own just so I can gain from you not knowing. I will use all of the worldly knowledge, and Godly wisdom God has allowed me to gain through my bachelors and masters degrees, the events God has led me through, and the things He is teaching me daily to help you! I’m returning your donkey! It is yours and I will not turn away from my responsibility.
3. This one may be my favorite! Verse 4
“If you see that your neighbor’s donkey or ox has collapsed on the road, do not look the other way. Go and help your neighbor get it back on it’s feet!”
This is the point I see sooo many women at! We have tried to get our heath on track, we have tried fad diets we have tried terrible restrictions, we have said “on Monday” so many times we’ve lost count, and we’ve tried every type of supplements/protein shake we can buy. Yet, our donkey is still laying on the ground. I’m coming to help!! Again, I’m helping you, not picking the donkey up myself and carrying it back to your house for you. Or getting it up and moving and leading it to you only for you to not grab ahold of it. Together we will get the donkey up!!!
How am I willing to help like this? Because I am a Christian and the Holy Spirit I have inside of me allows me to love others in ways that seem unusual to the world. I continually pray for God to guide this business, I find rest and grace knowing I’m covered by the blood of Christ, and I find confidence and assurance from the Holy Spirit who lives within me.
If none of that made any sense to you or if you have questions PLEASE reach out! I would love nothing else than to chat with you!!!
So let’s get the donkeys returned to you!! Let’s get those fallen donkeys up! (Still cracks me)
